Schenna vacation resort

Enjoy the perfect active holiday at the Schenna vacation resort.

The rustic community of Schenna is situated on a sundrenched elevation looking out over the resort city of Meran / Merano, about 4 km away. The community encompasses four quarters (Verdins, St. Georgen, Tall, and Schennaberg) and extends from the city boundaries of Meran / Merano (at 360 meters above sea-level) up to the summits of the Sarn / Sarentino Valley Alps and the area's trademark mountains, Ifinger and Hirzer. Because of its favorable geographic location, its rich cultural offerings, and its splendid climate (with 300 days of sunshine per year), the village with its 2,800 inhabitants became a popular vacation destination quite some time ago. Schenna has been inhabited since the Roman era, as archeological finds (coins, etc.) have proven.

Marvelous sights

Come see the marvelous sights!

You'll want to view not only the old and the new parish churches – the Mausoleum (where the Archduke Johann and his spouse are interred) is also worth visiting (their descendants still reside in the Schenna Castle). There's also a historical guided tour of Schenna which is conducted weekly. The Nature Fitness Park Schenna-Hirzer-Meran 2000, the Schenna und Verdins Waalweg (hiking trails along former irrigation channels), the Taser Zipline Facility, the countless hiking trails all around the towering Ifinger, and a pleasant stroll through the lively resort city of Meran / Merano will round out your vacation. And if it's entertainment and merriment you crave, then look no further! You can attend such events as the Schenna "Langes," the Schenna "Bauernkuchl," and the many pleasant summer evening events with live music.

Verdins

The Verdins quarter.
Pure relaxation.

Verdins is located at an elevation of 824 meters above sea-level, above Schenna and the entrance to the Passiria Valley. It offers a wealth of hiking options on and around the proud Hirzer mountain. You can reach Verdins by various methods, including regularly scheduled buses from Meran / Merano. The village – a place of peacefulness and contemplative beauty – boasts a charming village square with newer buildings, restaurants, and a modern parish church. You can walk past the Verdins church and continue on upwards along the Verdins Waalweg (hiking trail along a former irrigation channel), which extends northward to the Waaler Hut. But that is just one of many possible routes you can take to explore the fascinating alpine wonderland of Schenna. If you'd like to forego some of the arduous climb and begin your hike already at a higher elevation, then you might want to take the Verdins aerial cableway, that will whisk you away to an altitude of 1,438 meters above sea-level.
